About the Potter
I am a local artist working out of a small clay studio in Rowley, MA. During the day, I am a full time ceramics teacher and coach at St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA. It was at the Prep, as a student, that I first discovered my love for working with clay. All my work is hand thrown on the potter's wheel and altered to differing degrees. I work with traditional functional forms but use different techniques to create unique designs and natural textures that make each piece its own. I work with both high fire electric kilns and low fire traditional raku kilns to achieve different looks and finishes on my pots. The high fire kiln creates a more uniform color that can more easily be replicated. It is great for creating a set of pieces of for achieving a consistent color or look across a series of pieces. The raku kiln can be a fickle and stubborn beast, but, when she cooperates, the beautiful metallic colors make the effort worth the while. See my raku page for more information on this interesting and exciting process. My goal with any of my techniques is to create something that is its own, and that you will enjoy having as much as I have enjoyed making it.
